Antiques, Restoration and Polishing

F.W. Bradbury is able use completely traditional methods and materials when it comes to restoring antique furniture. This includes traditional French polish, water based wood stain, natural fillers and organic glues. Wood inlays and veneers are Fred's speciality and minor repairs to splintered wood and joins can also be made. All traditional wood finishing is done completely by hand.

Reproduction, Modern and Frequently used Furniture

A more resilient polish, stain and glue is used when it is not necessary to maintain authenticity. Unless requested otherwise, the polish used by F.W. Bradbury is Nitro-Cellulose lacquer. This does not mark easily and scratches can be removed easily without taking off all the polish. In addition to wood finishing, F.W. Bradbury can also repair loose joints, broken wood and peeling veneers. Where required, furniture can be customised by adding beading, upholstery or even shaping the existing wood. All work is finished by hand.

Getting the work done

To start the process of revitalising your furniture, simply give Fred a ring. To give a rough estimate of the price over the phone he will need a description of the furniture and the problem / work required including rough dimensions.

Fred must look at the furniture before giving a formal estimate. Where it is important to change the colour of the wood to meet a specific requirement, he will provide a sample.

In most cases Fred will advise that it is best to take the furniture to his workshop. When the work is done, it will be delivered back to your home and Fred will advise on the best way to look after the finish. A full invoice will be given and you may pay by cash or cheque.

If you are unfortunate enough to get a small scratch or mark on the furniture after the work is done, please call. Fred can give a much reduced price if it is not necessary to remove all of the polish.
